MIRI – A second coronavirus outbreak that saw 52 individuals infected at Sentosa Hospital in Kuching warrants an investigation, as the employees should have already completed two vaccine doses under Phase 1 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

State health authorities have been tasked to probe into the matter, including the routine epidemiology, how many personnel and patients have been vaccinated, as well as which vaccines were used and how long ago were they administered.

Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian in a statement today said Universiti Malaysia Sarawak will carry out a genomics study, which is expected to take up to two weeks.

He said the investigation is done not to point fingers, but to reap benefits that can translate into policy and action.

The outbreak at the hospital was one of three clusters announced in Sarawak yesterday.
