BUTTERWORTH – A victim in a road accident in Jalan Raja Uda yesterday who died at the scene was found positive for Covid-19 following a post-mortem.
Police and emergency responders who attended to the crash are believed to have completed their vaccination, and the concern now turns to passers-by and members of the public who stopped at the site.
The victim, Wan Alif Nazrin Wan Kamalalamat from Taman Teluk Air Tawar near here, was riding a Yamaha Y15ZR 150 in the 2.40pm incident.
Initial investigations showed that he was travelling from Jalan Telaga Air towards Jalan Permatang Tengah.
It is believed that he lost control of the motorcycle and hit the kerb, with the impact from the fall killing him instantly.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor in a statement said it was rumoured that the 20-year-old was wearing the pink quarantine wristband, but the officers who responded to the accident did not see one on the victim.
“We sent the body to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem, and the doctors established that the deceased was positive (for Covid-19). We have surrendered the body to the Health Ministry for the next course of action.”
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Noorzainy urged people against speculating and to refer to the authorities for clarification, so as to not cause public unrest. – The Vibes, July 17, 2021
