KUALA LUMPUR – The recent spike in Negri Sembilan’s Covid-19 cases can be attributed to the targeted screening conducted by employers in the manufacturing and industrial sectors, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
In a series of tweets, he said close-contact and symptomatic screening, too, is behind the surge.
The decision to allow certain business sectors to open lies with the National Security Council (NSC), despite them being considered major contributors to the Covid-19 caseload, he said.
“The Local Government Act 171 cannot supersede Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988).
“For example, on July 12, NSC allowed certain manufacturing and industrial sectors to operate during the MCO (movement control order). The state government has to follow the directive given.
“At the same time, the state deployed teams to ensure the SOPs are being complied with.”
He added that the state has been administering an average of 20,000 vaccine doses daily starting this month.
Concerns have been raised after Negri Sembilan recorded more than 1,500 new coronavirus cases in the last three days – 1,619 on July 16, July 15 (1,603) and July 14 (1,537). – The Vibes, July 17, 2021
