PUTRAJAYA – Two Prasarana Malaysia Bhd assets – the Putra Heights light rail transit station and Cheras Selatan Rapid Bus Complex – have been converted into industry vaccination centres (PPVINs) for the land transport sector.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong in a statement said it is a joint initiative between his ministry, and the Science, Technology and Innovation, and Health Ministries to immunise economic frontliners in the industry.
The PPVIN at the Putra Heights LRT station, which commenced operations today, will serve 2,598 vaccine recipients comprising staff of Prasarana’s rail services and Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd employees.
The PPVIN at the Cheras Selatan Rapid Bus Complex will begin operations on Wednesday to immunise 2,914 of the company’s employees.
Aside from providing the PPVIN venues, said Wee, Prasarana has also assigned staff who volunteered at these jab sites to assist in crowd control and other logistical matters.
He said his ministry has submitted a list of 48,973 names from the taxi and e-hailing categories, as well as 69,458 p-hailing riders’ names, to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force for vaccination.
“As of July 17, 56% of taxi and e-hailing drivers have received their vaccination appointments, while it is 49% for p-hailing riders.”
He said the ministry is in the process of obtaining approvals to open additional PPVINs for the transport sector in Johor, Penang, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak and Selangor, as well as additional vaccine doses for the Port Klang PPVIN to expedite the inoculation of seafarers, port workers and logistics employees.
