KOTA KINABALU – Clusters are the major contributor to Sabah’s 657 coronavirus cases today.

State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 372 infections stemmed from clusters, followed by close contacts (177), symptomatic screening (44), targeted screening (43) and others (21).

Based on targeted screening in 88 localities, he said, local clusters accounted for 317 cases (48.2%), with most of them from prison clusters.

“The two prison clusters (Kluster Tembok) keep Sabah’s infection figures high, with 131 cases at Kota Kinabalu Prison and 114 at Tawau Prison.

“Most of the 317 cases were detected from screening all the clusters, with the majority coming from prison clusters (245 cases), or 37.7% of the daily tally.

“Another major contributing factor is the Kg Pukak cluster in Tuaran with nine infections. It originated from a thanksgiving gathering attended by family members at the index case’s house.”

Areas under the enhanced movement control order are Beaufort, which saw eight infections, Keningau (6), Kota Belud (5), Kota Kinabalu (23), Kota Marudu (1), Kudat (4), Lahad Datu (2), Papar (3), Penampang (6), Pitas (3), Putatan (4), Sandakan (5), Sipitang (8), Tawau (9) and Tongod (1).

Masidi said 366,080 individuals in the state have been fully vaccinated, while 511,198 have received their first dose. – The Vibes, July 20, 2021
