KUALA LUMPUR – A man has been arrested for allegedly provoking police officers who reprimanded him for not wearing a face mask at a petrol station in Bandar Sri Damansara, Petaling Jaya.
Petaling Jaya police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 29-year-old suspect was picked up at his home, also in Bandar Sri Damansara, at around 10pm.
In a video that went viral yesterday, the suspect is seen being slapped with a compound for failing to wear a face mask when refuelling at a petrol station.
A dispute between the suspect and police ensued with the former provoking the latter even as he entered his car and drove away.
Following this incident, Fakhrudin said police received a report regarding a 15-minute clip provoking cops last night.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the incident took place in mid-afternoon at a petrol station in Bandar Sri Damansara on July 19.
Based on information, police arrested the suspect at his apartment – an incident that the man live-streamed on Facebook.
In the 10-minute video, the suspect is seen trying to calm his parents while police instructed him to step out of his apartment.

Fakhrudin said the case is being investigated under the following sections:
- Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in discharge of his public functions;
- Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace;
- Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for issuing statements that can cause fear or alarm to the public;
- Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network service; and,
- Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for rude behaviour in a public place.
Petaling Jaya police have reminded the public to always cooperate with officers who are carrying out their duties.
The people are also reminded to not speculate on the video as it may lead to issues that may jeopardise public peace. – The Vibes, July 21, 2021
