PUTRAJAYA – Special counters for the government’s recalibration programme will be opened at klia2 next week to facilitate arrangements to send home non-citizens who overstayed in Malaysia.
Immigration Director-General Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud in a statement said the department is in talks with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport management on opening more counters and providing suitable waiting locations for those in the queue.
He said this follows an increase in the number of non-citizens seeking services at the special counters under the programme at KLIA’s Level 3.
Eight counters with waiting areas able to accommodate 500 people will be opened at klia2’s Level 2, he said.
He said another 20 counters and more waiting areas will be made available at KLIA’s short-term car park facility to accommodate 850 to 1,000 people at any one time.
The special counters at KLIA’s Level 3 have been opened since July 5.
Non-citizens under the recalibration programme – which allows overstayers who are not in possession of valid passes to return to their home countries on a voluntary basis – can report themselves at these counters at least six hours before their flight without having to go through the Immigration Department’s online appointment system.
Khairul Dzaimee said the department is also working to open special counters at the sea checkpoint in Johor to facilitate the return of Indonesians via ferry.
“The department wishes to inform that only those with a negative RT-PCR test result (for Covid-19) are allowed to come to the special counters.”
As of yesterday, he said, there were 101,691 individuals registered under the recalibration programme, of whom 83,117 had left Malaysia.
On reports concerning non-citizens from this group being left “stranded” after missing their flights at KLIA, he said they are awaiting their turn to pay the RM500 compound and obtain a “check-out memo” before being allowed to depart Malaysia. – Bernama, July 21, 2021
