KUALA LUMPUR – It is impossible to have enough numbers to oust Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, believing his position is secure.
She remains confident that her boss and party president will prevail as Umno will not work with DAP and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, while Pejuang’s Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is unlikely to do so either.
“How are they going to get the numbers to form the government? It is impossible to me,” she told Malaysiakini in an interview.
“If (someone else) takes over now, things will go haywire and the people will be the victims.”
She highlighted that the government has to focus on the implementation of its various stimulus packages.
“Previously, we had Lim Guan Eng (as finance minister) and he said we have no money. Now we have (Datuk Seri) Tengku Zafrul (Tengku Abdul Aziz) who is able to – I don’t know how he does it – give us all these Pemulih, Perkasa and others (stimulus packages).
“If another government comes in, I don’t know how it is going to fix anything. So let (the government) remain stable for the sake of the people. We can have an election later,” she was quoted as saying.
Zuraida, who is Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director, told the news site that Muhyiddin still has an appeal with Malay voters due to his moderate image.
On Umno’s withdrawal of support, Zuraida said the PN coalition has been making inroads into the Malay heartland and the people are comfortable with Muhyiddin. – The Vibes, July 23, 2021
