KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 vaccine recipients are now allowed to record their vaccination process to ensure they receive the full dose, said Khairy Jamaluddin.
Referring to an incident where a nurse had mistakenly administered an empty syringe to a recipient, he said the public should take video evidence of their vaccination process.
“To ensure there will be no more confusion, I have received approval from the Health Ministry (MoH) to allow recipients to record a video of their vaccination. I have given instructions that this will be allowed under the standard operating procedures,” he told a joint press conference today.
“You will have proof that you received proper vaccination. We do not want to disrupt the frontliners’ duty. They have felt disturbed due to the complaints from the public over the past two to three days.
I do not want to downplay this; even a single error is one error too many. (But), human negligence happens, and it happens all over the world. I can show examples from other countries, but obviously, two wrongs do not make a right.
“I apologise to all who were affected. We will do better, but I hope that the Malaysian public will continue to support the hard work of our frontliners.
“Take a video when you are getting vaccinated. Please look when they administer it, do not be scared; make sure you get the right dose.”
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister urged the public to be more forgiving and understanding towards the exhausting work hours and gruelling conditions that frontliners face on a daily basis.
He pointed out that out of the 16 million doses already administered to the public, only 13 reports were lodged regarding empty syringes, and many of these have been proven false or inconclusive.
The nurse in question has already been reprimanded by her superiors and will face disciplinary action by MoH, he added.
He also dismissed speculation that some frontliners are in cahoots with a syndicate to steal and sell vaccines.
“Doctors, nurses and frontliners are risking their lives to administer half a million shots a day. We have the fastest vaccination rate in the world (right now).
“And I understand you (healthcare workers) are feeling sad and disheartened because of one or two cases. But I want you to understand that I have your back. I will be the one to answer to the public on any human negligence.” – The Vibes, July 23, 2021
