KUALA LUMPUR – The high court here has adjourned the 1Malaysia Development Bhd-linked forfeiture suit against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and 17 others following a new development.
Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan was told by the prosecution that certain letters have been submitted, and that they need time to go through them.
The court postponed oral submissions by the prosecution today to August 30.
In an explanation to the court, deputy public prosecutor Fatin Hadni Khairuddin said the letters are interrelated with other 1MDB-linked forfeiture suits, and extra time is needed due to the movement control order.
This suit was filed in May 2019, to forfeit numerous items seized from Najib, 15 individuals and two companies in 2018.
These items include RM18 million in numerous bank accounts, cash in multiple currencies, handbags, shoes, watches and 27 vehicles.
Among those named in the suit are the former prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, his stepson Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz, and the couple’s children Nor Ashman Razak and Nooryana Najwa.
Former banker Roger Ng and fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho’s mother Goh Gaik Ewe are also included.
Property belonging to Low’s family in Tg Bungah, Penang, is also part of the seized items. – The Vibes, July 23, 2021
