KUALA LUMPUR – Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was lambasted after saying the manufacturing sector is not the cause of Malaysia’s Covid-19 outbreak when interrupting opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Azmin was seen as breaking convention when he tried to explain his position regarding coronavirus infections in the sector.

Former deputy primary industries minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin immediately told off his ex-party colleague for not conducting himself according to the Standing Orders.

“How can a minister request a clarification? Gombak (Azmin), what is this? Wait for your floor. Don’t tell me things are getting too hot for you,” asked the Hang Tuah Jaya MP.

“I’m trying to inform the opposition leader to speak using facts and data,” said Azmin.

“Here’s a fact: back door,” fired back the PKR vice-president.

Azmin tried to explain that there have been only around 35,000 Covid-19 cases in the manufacturing sector, but he was drowned out by various parliamentarians interrupting and shouting at one another.

Finally, an irate Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon shouted: “Everyone! Sit! Down!”

Before he could continue, Anwar fired one last shot at his former No. 2: “I know you’re hurt. You weren’t selected as deputy prime minister.” – The Vibes, July 26, 2021
