KUALA LUMPUR – Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan lambasted the government for keeping quiet for five days over the revocation of six emergency ordinances.

His incredulity comes after Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan revealed in Dewan Rakyat today that the revocations are backdated to July 21

“Why were there no announcements at all?

“For five days the people were not informed of the laws and operating systems in the country. What about all the compounds and fines over the past five days that were made on the assumption that the emergency law still applies?” Shahril said in a statement today.

“We heard during the debate just now that the constitution allocates that any emergency ordinances must be presented to Parliament, unless they are cancelled early.

“Was the cancellation made early to avoid today’s sitting?”

He added that Umno wanted to discuss the emergency ordinance.

“A complete explanation must be made immediately to avoid confusion. Even in the hall, there is still confusion on the status of the emergency.”

Shahril questioned whether the emergency proclamation will remain until August 1.

“One thing is clear, just like important decisions made in the past, such as the convening of Parliament, action will be taken in a hurry after being pushed many times by various parties, including Umno.” – The Vibes, July 26, 2021
