KUALA LUMPUR – Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has been slapped with a compound for not wearing a mask in the Parliament lobby yesterday.
Sentul district police chief Beh Eng Lai said investigations showed Tajuddin committing the offence at 2.30pm while he was in the complex to attend the special session of the Dewan Rakyat.
Tajuddin, who was recently removed by Umno as its elections director, was in the company of another person at the lobby while not wearing a mask.
“Due to the violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), a compound notice was served on him at 1pm today,” Beh said in a statement.
This is the second time Tajuddin is being hit with a compound for failing to wear a mask during the current pandemic.
Early last month, he was compounded RM1,500 after he had addressed a press conference on May 25.
Tajuddin, who was then Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman, had only worn a face shield while talking to the media in relation to the train crash at the KLCC LRT station the night before.
Deputy Prime Minister Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said on May 22 that masks must be worn in public spaces, even if an individual wears the niqab or a face shield.
Under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342), he said, it is compulsory to wear a mask in public places.
Beh today said that police were alerted by a tweet at 10am today that featured a photo of Tajuddin standing without a mask at the lobby.
“We would like to advise people at large to always comply with SOPs during the MCO (movement control order) period by wearing masks and ensuring physical distancing while in public places in line with efforts to break the transmission of Covid-19,” he said. – The Vibes, July 27, 2021
