KOTA KINABALU – Close contacts and clusters have been attributed to the sudden spike for Covid-19 cases in Sabah, which recorded 913 new cases today.

Similar figures were recorded back in November last year, following the state elections two months prior.

The capital city here recorded the highest spike with 234 cases, an increase of 85 cases from 149 recorded yesterday.

This is followed by Kalabakan with 61 cases (+57 cases), Penampang with 101 (+51), Putatan with 44 (+27), and Beaufort with 70 (+10).

Close contacts make up 500 cases, of which 138 cases were recorded here.

Meanwhile, 189 cases involve clusters, with 121 cases recorded following symptomatic screening, 57 from various screening procedures, and 48 from targeted screening.

Sabah recorded over 700 cases in the past three days prior to hitting today’s numbers, the highest to date.

The state aims to ensure that 60% of its population are vaccinated by October. – The Vibes, July 28, 2021
