KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has once again been urged to resign immediately – this time by Umno Youth.
The demand for Muhyiddin’s resignation comes following a statement from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who had expressed his deep regret over the deliberate confusion caused by Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
The Kota Baru MP’s revelation on Monday that the emergency proclamation and its ordinances had been revoked on July 21 (), was deemed by the king as “inaccurate” and had “misled the lawmakers in the Dewan Rakyat”.
In a statement today, Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the prime minister should immediately resign as he has clearly violated the oath of office.
“The law minister’s announcement on the revocation of the emergency ordinances on July 26 is very confusing because the king has not approved the facts of the matter.
“In fact, the statement from the palace has also revealed that the government deliberately disobeyed the king’s decree which clearly wanted the proposal for revocation to be tabled and debated in Parliament before voting on it, in line with Article 150 (3) of the federal constitution,” he said.
According to Asyraf, the actions from the government are a clear form of rebellion as it is turning its back on the king as the Head of State.
The youth wing has also urged Umno MPs to abide by the party’s supreme council’s decision on July 7 to withdraw support for Muhyiddin.
“As the main defenders of the institution of Malay Rulers under Clause 3 of the Umno constitution, we can’t compromise with the callous attitude of the government led by Muhyiddin towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said. – The Vibes, July 29, 2021
