KUALA LUMPUR – The assistance promised by the Saudi government via the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to help Malaysia fight the Covid-19 pandemic has arrived.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the aid was transported aboard two aircraft that departed King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh yesterday morning and landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport the same day.
Among the cargo are 100 ventilators, 150 portable ventilators, 319 oxygen concentrators, 30 respiratory support devices, 100 portable ventilator consumables, 150 electric medical beds, 15 vital signs monitors, 10 central vital signs monitors, and 27 portable vital signs monitors.
Also included are three million surgical masks, a million N95 masks, 500,000 medical gloves, 180 pulse oximeters, 50 intravenous infusion pumps, 50 intravenous solution pumps, seven defibrillators, five video laryngoscopes, five electrocardiographs, and 10,000 protective gowns.
Wisma Putra in a statement last night said the aid will be officially handed over to the government by the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Malaysia this afternoon. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is expected to attend the handover event.
SPA said a million Covid-19 vaccine doses promised by Saudi Arabia will be provided through coordination with Wisma Putra.
The aid delivery follows a request by Hishammuddin to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a recent phone call.
“This aid is an affirmation of the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, and Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian role towards the nations most affected by Covid-19,” said the SPA report. – Bernama, July 30, 2021
