KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government has given the go-ahead for companies in all industries in the state to purchase the Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinovac and Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccines directly from the public sector to inoculate their workers.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said companies could convert part of their premises as temporary vaccination centres and get either the state Health Department or private clinics to coordinate vaccinations.
In the meantime, Masidi also announced today’s Covid-19 update with Sabah recording the highest number of positive cases this year at 1,066 cases today.
The highest number of cases include Kota Kinabalu (266 cases), followed by Tawau (171), Beaufort (87) and Penampang (82).
Masidi said that close contacts represented the highest contributor at 60% (640 cases), while symptomatic screenings and cluster-based screenings each recorded 157 cases (14.7% each).
Of the total, 236 patients (22.14%) are being treated in hospital while the rest (830 patients) are being treated in low-risk quarantine centres.
The state also recorded six Covid-19 deaths today, and two new clusters, namely the Batu Dua cluster in Tawau and Gunsapau cluster in Ranau and Kota Marudu.
Meanwhile, the capacity of 5,761 Covid-19 available beds increased from 58.86% yesterday to 69.15% today, with the continued increase of new Covid-19 patients.
As of today, 147 localities in Sabah are under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), with the highest in Kota Kinabalu with 36 localities followed by Sipitang (15) and Tawau (13).
Another 22 localities will fall under the EMCO from Sunday until August 14. –The Vibes, July 30, 2021
