KUALA LUMPUR – The standard operating procedures at vaccination centres (PPVs), especially mega ones, will be enhanced to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection at these places.
National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said apart from scheduling appointments and implementing physical distancing, the time spent at PPVs will be reduced by accelerating the vaccination process for recipients with the introduction of the digital consent form on MySejahtera.
With the new feature, he said, there is no longer the need to fill out forms manually.
“In the Klang Valley, with its sporadic cases, it is difficult to say that certain places such as PPVs are the cause of infection. I am looking at this issue to ensure that the SOPs at mega PPVs can be tightened and improved every day,” he said on the Janji Temu Bersama Ras: Tangani Pandemik Covid-19 Bersama programme on Bernama TV hosted by Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Mohd Radzi last night.
Khairy, who is also science, technology and innovation minister, said help has been sought from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to ensure good ventilation at mega PPVs.
Commenting on the congestion at the KLCC jab site recently, he said it was due to people turning up not according to their time slots, adding that the matter was quickly resolved.
He said Operation Surge Capacity to increase the vaccination rate will continue in other areas once it is completed in the Klang Valley.
Khairy said Malaysia has a relatively high vaccination registration rate at 82% of the adult population.
“I believe more will register when they hear the announcement to be made by the prime minister on the conveniences to be accorded to those who have received both doses. I do not want to pre-empt the prime minister.”
On the fixing of ceiling prices for Covid-19 jabs, he said the matter will be discussed with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba at a meeting soon.
“This is so that vaccines are not sold at an excessive price. Even though this concerns the private sector, vaccines are an essential item in the pandemic. So, it is not fair for anyone to profit excessively from the sale of vaccines.”
He added that Malaysia is discussing with the European Union on accepting the MySejahtera digital vaccination certificate for Malaysians entering the continent. – Bernama, August 1, 2021
