GEORGE TOWN – The Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas will be open to the public tomorrow.
Penang’s largest PPV to date will also cater to walk-ins for individuals aged 60 and above who have yet to receive their first shot and do not have any appointment in MySejahtera.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, at the launch yesterday, announced that the PPV will be able to add 5,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses a day to the immunisation programme in the state, effectively expediting it for registered folk, especially north-east and south-west districts’ residents.
“The PPV will also ensure we achieve 100% vaccination for those who have registered on MySejahtera and set to receive their first dose by the first week of September.
“It will be operated by two healthcare organisations (HCO), namely Medi-Genesis Clinic for HCO C and Kepas Indah Clinic for HCO D.
“A total of 181 personnel from various government agencies, including the armed forces, police, Civil Defence Department, Rela, MyVax volunteers, Youth and Sports Department, District and South-west Land Office, as well as State Secretary’s Office, will be involved.”
However, recipients must be aware that there is another mega PPV in the vicinity – the SPICE Arena, which began operations as a special PPV for the administration of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine on June 7, and is labelled HCO A and HCO B.
So far, 43.4% (768,912 individuals) of the population in Penang have received the first dose, while 17.2% (305,357 individuals) are fully vaccinated. – The Vibes, August 2, 2021
