KUALA LUMPUR – The meeting on Sunday among certain Umno members here did not betray the party’s collective decision on “No Anwar, No DAP” made during the recent general assembly

Umno veteran and Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz told Utusan Malaysia that the meeting was attended by some Barisan Nasional lawmakers, who signed support letters to ensure the current Perikatan Nasional (PN) remains in government.

He said if the PN government collapses, it will give way to Pakatan Harapan (PH) to return to power.

“We, BN MPs, including Umno, have agreed to defend PN, otherwise, it will fall and eventually Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP will take over the government.

“This is in line with the decision of the Umno general assembly – ‘No Anwar, No DAP’. So we are not betraying the party,” he was quoted as saying.

He also refuted several reports saying that they signed statutory declarations (SDs) stating support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“It was not to sign SDs for the PM, but support letters for PN. This is consistent with what Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Pekan MP Datuk Seri Najib Razak have said.”

Yesterday, Sinar Harian reported that some 30 BN MPs signed SDs supporting Muhyiddin.

A BN source was quoted as saying that the meeting at the Defence Ministry’s headquarters in Wisma Perwira began around 9pm Sunday and was chaired by former BN backbenchers club chairman and Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim. – The Vibes, August 3, 2021
