JOHOR BARU – A welfare home worker today pleaded not guilty at the sessions court here to four counts of sexual assault and rape against a 10-year-old resident.
Sai Kim Kok, 42, entered his plea before judge Wan Mohd Norisham Wan Yaakob.
The suspect, himself a father, was charged with committing the offences against the girl at the facility in Taman Century here in May.
He was charged with three counts of committing physical sexual assault under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
For the rape charge, he was charged under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than 10 years and liable to whipping upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Chan Choon Yew requested that the court not allow the accused bail as the victim is still living in the facility where the suspect is employed.
Wan Norisham did not grant bail.
He fixed September 22 for mention for the accused to appoint a counsel, as well as for the submission of documents. – Bernama, August 4, 2021
