KUALA LUMPUR – Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor has been appointed the new chairman of the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) effective yesterday.
Affandi, who is chairman of PETRA Diversified Systems and Technologies and PETRA Modular, takes over from Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, who is retiring from the post since taking up the helm in August 2018.
In a statement, LTAT said Affandi, who was appointed as the 19th chief of the defence forces on December 16, 2016, retired in 2018 after serving the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) for 42 years.
During his time in service, Affandi was directly involved in the Second Malaysian Emergency during his early days as an army officer, taking up the role of platoon commander in the fight against communist insurgents.
He was then later appointed lead instructor at the Army Basic Training Centre and assistant chief of staff at the Army Planning and Development Unit, as well as commander of the 2nd Division.
He climbed up the ranks to become Malaysia’s army chief from 2013 to 2016, and became the country’s 19th chief of Malaysia’s Defence Forces until his retirement three years ago.
“LTAT welcomes General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi as the new chairman. With his long years of military service, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi will offer his wisdom and provide his guidance to the board and the management, in our effort to transform LTAT into a sustainable and competitive retirement fund,” said the fund’s chief executive, Datuk Ahmad Nazim Rahman.
Meanwhile, he said outgoing chairman Zahidi played a key role in providing insights and direction for the implementation of good corporate governance practices, and had been instrumental in formulating LTAT’s transformation plan.
“We greatly appreciate General Tan Sri Zahidi for his leadership of the board and for guiding the senior management in its many initiatives. On behalf of the LTAT workforce, we express our gratitude and thanks for his services and wisdom during the years he served as our chairman,” he added.
LTAT is the third largest government-linked investment company, with RM9.6 billion in assets under management as at December 31 last year.
Affandi told The Vibes that his appointment is an honour but also a big responsibility.
“This is an honour but also a challenge for me but I will do my level best to meet those challenges,” he said.
“LTAT is sacred as it was created to provide security for members of our armed forces as a way of honouring their sacrifices.”
Affandi added that LTAT prioritises the interests and welfare of all veterans.
“I endeavour to ensure that we continue to look at ways to optimise our investments that are in the best interests of our members.
