KOTA KINABALU – A funeral sparked a new Covid-19 cluster in Kota Belud, with 29 cases reported so far.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the index case is a 32-year-old female bank teller, who experienced coughing, body aches, fever and sore throat, and was confirmed positive on July 26.
“All 29 patients have been referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and a low-risk quarantine and treatment centre,” he said.
The 29 individuals were part of 159 close contacts screened due to the Tampasuk cluster.
Sabah registered 949 new Covid-19 cases today, down from the 1,010 yesterday. Of the total, 570 infections (60.06%) were close contacts.
Masidi urged community leaders, as well as mukim and village heads to remind residents to not hold any post-funeral ceremony, such as kenduri and tahlil.
He said this is important to prevent the spread of infection that can trigger new clusters, which are currently mushrooming due to social events. – Bernama, August 4, 2021
