KUALA LUMPUR – Cracks seem to have appeared in Barisan Nasional, with MCA saying it is sticking to the coalition’s resolution to support the Perikatan Nasional administration until the next general election.

“This has been the position of BN since last year, and MCA has a duty to uphold it. MCA is a component of BN, and reiterated its resolve to remain with the coalition during this year’s general assembly,” said the party’s political bureau in a statement.

“The facts and reality are evident: not one party or coalition can form a stable government if the PN administration falls right now. It will only drag the country into yet another deep end of a political crisis, to the detriment of the people and country.”

The party came to this decision following a political bureau meeting yesterday, said the statement.

MCA said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to table a vote of confidence when Parliament convenes in September is the right one.

“At present, we are still facing the Covid-19 pandemic and a sluggish economy. Political stability is key to protecting lives and livelihoods.”

MCA’s stand appears to run contrary to BN lynchpin Umno’s public withdrawal of support for PN and Muhyiddin.

Umno two days ago called on the prime minister to step down. Yesterday, Muhyiddin said he is willing to prove his majority in the Dewan Rakyat when it meets next month. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
