KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Umno is backing state ruling coalition Gabungan Rakyat Sabah as it hopes for the issues between its central leadership and the Perikatan Nasional federal government to be resolved in a prudent, harmonious and discreet manner.
“As stipulated under Article 3 of the Umno constitution, all Sabah Umno leaders and members express their full loyalty to the Malay rulers, and will protect the federal and state constitutions,” said the state chapter in a statement tonight.
“The mandate given by the Sabah people to the state Umno in the 16th state election will be respected, solidified and maintained.
“We hope our stand will be respected by all quarters for the sake of stability, harmony and prosperity for the people and for the Sabah we love.”
The chapter added that as an autonomous “brother” to the federal Umno, it will always respect the decisions and stand of the central leadership.
Sabah Umno has two MPs, namely Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (Kinabatangan) and Datuk Mohamad Alamin (Kimanis).
Its chief Bung Moktar has kept mum throughout the latest political episode, while Mohamad has reaffirmed his support for PN and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The statement comes after Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi this week announced that the party is pulling its support for the ruling coalition and Muhyiddin. – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
