[UPDATED] Fresh Covid-19 caseload slightly lower at 19,257

KUALA LUMPUR – After yesterday’s 20,889 record-high shocker, today’s Covid-19 tally has shrunk slightly to 19,257 fresh infections.

However, total recoveries hit the 1 million mark with today’s 16,323 discharges, adding up to 1,009,343 recovered from Covid-19 so far.

Selangor accounts for 7,084 of today’s caseload, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,450), Kedah (1,514), Sabah (1,255) and Johor (1,182).

Other states logged fewer than 1,000 cases each, namely, Penang with 959, followed by Kelantan (930), Negri Sembilan (884), Perak (774), Pahang (714), Sarawak (573), Terengganu (425), and Melaka (414).

Putrajaya, Perlis and Labuan recorded 56, 41 and two infections, respectively.

Meanwhile, fatalities rose again with 210 deaths, for a total of 10,389 since the start of the pandemic.

Of the total active cases, 1,097 are in intensive care while 575 need ventilation support.

On the breakdown of infections by severity, the Health Ministry said 740 cases (3.8%) are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, and 18,517 cases (96.2%) are in Categories 1 and 2. 

Separately, the country’s official infectivity rate (Rt) is at 1.09 as of yesterday. 

The state with the highest rate is Kelantan (1.28), followed by Sabah (1.19), Terengganu (1.19), Perak (1.18), and Penang (1.18). 

All states have an Rt higher than 1.00 except Perlis (0) and Labuan (0). 

There were also 36 new clusters reported by the Health Ministry today. 

Of the total clusters, 18 were link to worksites in Selangor, Johor, Kelantan, Pahang, and Kuala Lumpur, recording 605 cases altogether. 

Fifteen community clusters in Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan, Sarawak, and Sabah logged 289 fresh cases.

A higher learning institute cluster in Kelantan saw 8 cases, a religious cluster in Pahang logged 20 cases, and a detention centre cluster in Sabah recorded 50 cases today. – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
