KUALA LUMPUR – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The party also said it will uphold the decree from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, so that the current government will be allowed to continue until Muhyiddin’s legitimacy is decided at the parliamentary session in September.
In a statement today that came following a special meeting between GPS chairman Datuk Abang Johari Openg and its MPs, the state’s ruling coalition made its support for the current government and prime minister clear.
The meeting, to discuss the latest political situation in the country, took place today at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters in Kuching today.
“GPS describes the PM’s decision to propose a vote of confidence against him at Parliament next month as a bold and wise move, as well as the best constitutional approach,” GPS said in the statement issued by secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
It added that dragging the rakyat into a political crisis and attempting to overthrow the government, especially in a pandemic, will only cause more public unrest.
GPS said its priority right now is the people and facing issues that stem from the pandemic, speeding up the Covid-19 vaccination process as well as reviving the state and national economy.
