KUALA LUMPUR – Responding to the harsh words directed at him by party colleague Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz over Umno’s position regarding the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration, former party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the public ought to gauge Nazri by his past statements.

Free Malaysia Today (FMT) reported that Najib had given several examples of the Padang Rengas MP’s inconsistencies, going as far back as 2018 during the Port Dickson by-election, all the way to January this year where Nazri had declared retracting support for the ruling coalition.

He reportedly told the portal that in January, the former tourism minister claimed Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had lost majority support.

Similarly, in 2020, it was also reported that Nazri had never supported PN but had always backed the Muafakat Nasional (MN) alliance, originally made up of PAS and Umno before an invitation was extended to Bersatu.

Furthermore, the Pekan MP also recalled that Nazri had openly supported PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Port Dickson by-election in September 2018. He even went as far as saying that he would campaign for the opposition leader.

In 2019, he had also reiterated his backing for Anwar but will remain in Umno.

Another point raised by Najib was the fact that Nazri had said that Umno and PAS should cooperate while apologising to the Islamist party for originally objecting to them in March 2019.

“Read his past statements and judge Nazri for yourself,” Najib reportedly said to FMT in response to being branded a liar and a b****** by his erstwhile colleague.

The former prime minister had questioned claims that 40 Barisan Nasional (BN) federal lawmakers backed the PN regime in a social media post.

The Vibes had earlier reported Nazri claiming that the 40 MPs who met that day had discussed and agreed to back PN even if they withdrew support for Muhyiddin.

Nazri had outright called them “bloody liars” and referred to Najib as “that b******”. – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
