KUALA LUMPUR – Police will investigate opposition MPs’ allegations on efforts to buy their support, said Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The home minister in a statement said his ministry will not hesitate to act against any party found to have lodged false and defamatory police reports.
Following the complaints by Pakatan Harapan lawmakers regarding the receipt of WhatsApp messages purportedly showing individuals attempting to secure their backing for the Perikatan Nasional government, he said, police have been ordered to conduct a thorough investigation.
“In addition to referring the police reports to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, investigations will be conducted to determine the authenticity of the allegations made.”
Earlier today, MACC said it will probe into claims by certain PH parliamentarians that there have been attempts to lure them into supporting PN in exchange for money and positions.
It is understood that graft-busters met three DAP MPs to facilitate their investigation.
Perak police said they received reports from opposition parliamentarians, and these reports were then forwarded to MACC for a probe to be conducted.
In a statement yesterday, the PH presidential council said Ipoh Barat MP M. Kula Segaran, Chee Kee Chin (Rasah), Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka), Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Kulim-Bandar Baharu), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa), Azman Ismail (Kuala Kedah) and Chan Ming Kai (Alor Star) are among the lawmakers allegedly offered inducements. – The Vibes, August 9, 2021
