KOTA KINABALU – Some 83.1%, or 9,137, Categories 1 and 2 Covid-19 patients are undergoing home quarantine in Sabah since fresh cases surpassed the 1,000 mark late last month.
Categories 1 and 2 are classified as being asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms.
In the span of just nine days, 11,215 persons have been contracted Covid-19 in the state.
An official with the state’s Health Ministry told The Vibes that once identified, the individuals were instructed to undergo assessment and self-isolation at home.
Regular checks are conducted on these individuals to ensure they do not violate the stay-at-home directive, the official said.
“They are largely individuals reporting mild symptoms,” the official said, on condition of anonymity.
Home quarantine has allowed health authorities to avoid overcrowding at hospitals and quarantine centres.
This has left bed occupancy at hospitals in the state at around 67.15%, amounting to 6,934 beds throughout Sabah.
It is learnt that from 1,155 beds available at local hospitals, 1,083 are currently occupied.
Additionally, there are 3,340 individuals undergoing self-isolation at low-risk quarantine centres which have 4,607 beds.
While, 233 individuals are under quarantine orders at local jails and temporary detention facilities, which have 1,172 beds in total. – The Vibes, August 9, 2021
