MIRI – Sarawak’s capital Kuching has become the epicentre of the state’s Covid-19 outbreak, with over half of today’s fresh cases recorded in the city.
The state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat in a statement said Sarawak logged 836 new infections, of which 458 are in Kuching.
It said Serian and Samarahan districts saw 131 and 56 cases, respectively.
The state registered another two coronavirus deaths, both at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.
The victims – men aged 78 and 61 – make for a total of 473 lives lost to the disease in the state.
The state DMC said Sarawak detected seven new clusters, with four in Kuching – Kg Tg Bako, Cahaya Damai, Kg Jaya Kuching and Kg Braang Payang, which cumulatively recorded 96 infections.
The remaining clusters are Senibong in Lundu with seven cases, Sessang in Kabong (42) and Dabai in Saratok (32). – The Vibes, August 10, 2021
