KUALA LUMPUR – The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has called on the government to allow all economic sectors to reopen immediately based on each company’s vaccination rate, coupled with continued compliance with the standard operating procedures and periodic Covid-19 screening of workers.
Failure to do this will result in more businesses forced to shutter, causing irreparable damage to the economy and the risk of the country going into a recession with a long recovery period, it said in a statement today.
“The industry is most concerned about the prolonged closure of non-essential sectors for almost three months now.
“While FMM notes and welcomes the easing of restrictions for individuals who have been fully vaccinated, we look forward to a similar easing of restriction for the business sector, which is desperately needed to ensure business viability as many are on the brink of collapse due to the extended closure.”
It is evident worldwide that a quick vaccination roll-out is the answer to economies’ reopening and revival, added the group.
With the ramping up of the national immunisation programme, said FMM, it is imperative for the government to immediately do away with the segregation between essential and non-essential sectors, give that businesses are interconnected.
“Much effort, time and financial resources have been deployed by employers to ramp up company-level vaccinations as they recognise that this is their only ticket to returning to normalcy for their business operations and sustainability.” – Bernama, August 10, 2021
