KUALA LUMPUR – The overcrowding at Rumah Prihatin @ Grand Seasons here today was due to a misunderstanding that it was offering walk-in Covid-19 vaccinations for non-citizens, said its management.

Walk-in jabs for non-Malaysians are being offered at the Bukit Jalil vaccination centre, it clarified in a statement tonight.

It said Rumah Prihatin provides the walk-in facility only for Malaysians, with priority given to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and marginalised and vulnerable groups.

“Initially, we took action along with police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall to disperse the crowd, but they refused to budge despite being given warnings. However, the situation was eventually brought under control with the help of the authorities.

“The vaccination programme is managed by Rumah Prihatin under the MyMedik Vaccination Programme @ Wilayah initiative, and does not involve other parties. We regret what happened, and we will further improve standard operating procedure compliance to ensure no recurrence.”

A seven-minute, 15-second video that has gone viral shows a large crowd gathering in the compound of the centre with little regard for physical distancing.
