KUALA LUMPUR – Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has warned the state assembly that he will not entertain any politics shenanigans from reps in the state.
The Johor ruler stressed that he will not hesitate to dissolve the state assembly if he feels there are efforts to overthrow the government.
“I advise all assemblymen to use this sitting to discuss action plans to help the people and develop the state economy.
“There is no need to debate or bring irrelevant motions. Do not be selfish. All of you must put the rakyat first; they are suffering, some are hungry, have lost their jobs and there are also some who are battling Covid-19.
“This is not the time to bicker but the time for unity and cooperation. Don’t ask others what is being done to help the people, but look at yourself in the mirror,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
Bernama also reported that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today attended the sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Iskandar Puteri.
Muhyiddin, who is also Gambir assemblyman, arrived at 9.30am.
The prime minister, who is also Pagoh MP and Bersatu president, was seated in the same row with two former Johor menteris besar – Datuk Osman Sapian (Bersatu-Kempas) and Datuk Sahruddin Jamal (Bersatu-Bukit Kepong).
Muhyiddin was the 13th menteri besar of Johor from 1986 to 1995. He was appointed to the post after winning the Bukit Serampang seat.
The Perikatan Nasional-led state government has 29 seats in the state assembly, and Pakatan Harapan, the opposition, has 27.
‘Not a house for caged monkeys’
In his speech at the opening of the Johor assembly today, Sultan Ibrahim also reminded the 56 elected reps that the state assembly is a place to discuss and make resolutions for the interest of the people and the state.
“Do not contaminate my House with bad behaviour. This is an august House, not a house for caged monkeys,” the monarch said.
He also reminded all present to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set.
“The sitting this time should be held with caution.
“If there is a high risk of Covid-19 transmission, I will ask the speaker to postpone this sitting,” he added.
When the Covid-19 pandemic is under control, the ruler said he will hand the mandate back to the people to elect new assemblymen.
“After this, please properly elect leaders who are honest and sincere to serve the people.
“To rebuild the economy after the pandemic is under control, the government needs to work hard to help traders and also attract foreign investors so that more job opportunities can be created.
“The government needs to make new policies that are investor-friendly with attractive incentives... (with this) I am sure many investors will come to Johor,” he said. – The Vibes, August 12, 2021
