KUALA LUMPUR – Another seven Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) activists were hauled in by the police for questioning over their involvement in the anti-government rally at Dataran Merdeka in July.
In a media release today, the group stated that they came in to give their statements to authorities at 10am and the questioning took about an hour and a half.
“We were called to give our statements at IPD Dang Wangi at 10am. The police called the seven individuals for questioning under Section 4 of the Sedition Act and Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
“The investigation took one hour and a half. All the activists received Notice 111 from the IPD Dang Wangi investigating officer at 10.30pm yesterday (12 August),” said the group, adding that the youth had given their full cooperation to the police.
The seven activists are:

2. Mohammad Alshatri Abdullah
3. Nur Qyira Izzati Yusri
4. Tharmelinggem Pillai
5. Dobby Chew
6. Sevan Doraisamy
7. Amir Hariri Abdul Hadi
SSR also slammed the police for excessiveness and intimidation through its use of the Sedition Act against the seven individuals, reiterating the fact that the freedom to assemble is already enshrined under Article 10 of the federal constitution.
It repeated its warning that if Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has not resigned by next Friday, the group will take to the streets in protest once more on that date.
On July 17, 14 black flags were raised under the shadow of the Jalur Gemilang by a small group of protesters at Dataran Merdeka.
The gathering saw demonstrators reiterating three demands: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation, an automatic loan moratorium, and for the upcoming special Parliament sitting to be more than a “briefing session” for the government. – The Vibes, August 13, 2021
