[UPDATED] 21,468 Covid-19 cases, 277 deaths today

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 21,468 Covid-19 cases, making for a total of 1,363,683 since the pandemic began.

Selangor claims a whopping 7,449 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,183) and Kedah (1,807).

Sabah saw 1,654 cases, Johor (1,485), Penang (1,316), Kelantan (1,088), Negri Sembilan (974), Perak (940), Melaka (723), Sarawak (715), Pahang (572), Terengganu (440), Putrajaya (66), Perlis (50) and Labuan (6).

The Health Ministry reported 277 deaths, taking the toll to 11,968.

Of the 1,075 patients in intensive care, 537 are on ventilators.

Another 17,025 recoveries push up the overall figure to 1,110,528.

Of the fresh cases, 670 are in categories three, four, and five, with the remainder in categories one and two.  

Of the 277 deaths, 108 were recorded in Selangor, followed by 66 in Kuala Lumpur, 26 in Johor, 18 in Negri Sembilan, and 15 in Sabah. 

Kedah saw 14 fatalities, Melaka recorded 11, and Penang logged six deaths. 

Kelantan recorded five deaths and Pahang saw two deaths, while Perak and Terengganu saw three each.  

The ministry said the national infectivity rate stood at 1.05 as of yesterday.  

Perlis registered the highest rate at 1.33, followed by Sabah and Kelantan (1.17) and Sarawak and Penang (1.17). All states recorded a rate of above 1.0 except for Labuan and Putrajaya. 

A total of 41 new clusters have been detected, with 22 linked to worksites in Selangor, Sabah, Penang, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, and Johor involving a total of 990 infections. 

Nine community clusters in Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Sarawak, Selangor, and Terengganu logged 181 cases. 

Eight high-risk group clusters with 238 cases were reported in Johor, Kedah, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Melaka while two clusters related to higher education involving 35 cases were reported in Pahang and Kelantan. – The Vibes, August 13, 2021
