KUCHING – While opposition parties have spurned embattled Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s latest invitation to adopt a bipartisan approach to governing the country, Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju said the offer will change Malaysia’s political landscape for generations.
The Sarawak Bersatu vice-chairman in a statement said the prime minister’s offer is not mere rhetoric but involves real change, and will have a far-reaching impact on communities regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.
“Malaysians heard a resoundingly bold and brave slew of reforms proposed by the PM in his special address today (yesterday). These are real reforms and not mere political rhetoric or flimsy manifestos, but reforms that we have all been fighting for and championing all these years.”
Ali, who switched camps from PKR to Bersatu after the Sheraton Move last year, said with bipartisan support and cooperation, the rakyat will be able to see a common political struggle finally bearing fruit.
Pleading with his former compatriots in the opposition, he said: “This is an offer you have been waiting for and simply cannot refuse. This is for our nation’s future. Enough politicking and spewing rhetoric. Enough dallying with kleptocrats.
“The rakyat are now banking on us to lift this nation out of an impasse that is only wreaking havoc.
“Let us work together on real change for once, and put aside our differences. The offer has been made, and the time has come. What else are we waiting for?”
When it was suggested that Muhyiddin’s offer is a desperate attempt to cling on to power that comes too little, too late, Ali said the prime minister’s message is clear.
“The opposition also could not come up with a concrete decision to form a majority, let alone propose a name for the PM candidate.
“The PM, therefore, invites a bipartisan effort to resolve the current impasse with reforms as part of the effort.” – The Vibes, August 14, 2021
