PUTRAJAYA – Teenagers aged 12 to 15 will be given Covid-19 jabs, with priority accorded to those with certain medical problems, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said those aged 16 and 17 will also be considered for vaccination.
The decision was made following new data on the matter on June 16 sighted by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), he said.
“NPRA has approved it, but for implementation, it depends on priority, namely, those aged 12 and above with diseases such as leukaemia.
“For 16- and 17-year-olds, we will give priority to those who have certain diseases that have been identified, while those without diseases will also be considered.”
He said Pfizer has submitted to NPRA a proposal for those aged 16 and up to be vaccinated, but data for this age group is not strong as extrapolation was made from data on adults.
Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry is still waiting for the latest data on healthy children aged 12 and above. – Bernama, August 14, 2021
