KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 20,670 new Covid-19 cases today, a slight dip from the 21,468 cases yesterday.

The nationwide caseload now stands at 1,384,353.

Selangor is in the lead with 6,606 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,028), Kedah (1,796), Sabah (1,752), Johor (1,425), Kelantan (1,370), Penang (1,251) and Perak (1,003).

States with fewer than 1,000 infections are Pahang (794), Negri Sembilan (727), Sarawak (725), Terengganu (560), Melaka (521), Perlis (61) and Putrajaya (51).

Labuan did not record any infection today.

Of the 20,670 cases, only 676 are in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Another 17,655 recoveries make for a total of 1,128,183. Of the 1,096 patients in intensive care, 540 require breathing aid.

The Health Ministry reported 260 Covid-19 fatalities, driving up the death toll to 12,228.

Selangor claimed 77 fatalities, Kuala Lumpur (56), Johor (50), Perak (18), Negri Sembilan (16), Kedah (14), Sabah (10), Melaka (8), Penang and Kelantan, six each, and Pahang and Sarawak, one each.

A total of 68 deaths have been classified as brought-in-dead today.

The ministry said as of yesterday, the nationwide infectivity rate stood at 1.05.

Perlis registered the highest rate at 1.41, followed by Sabah, Penang and Kelantan (1.18), and Sarawak (1.15). Other states also recorded a rate of above 1.0, except for Labuan and Putrajaya.

Malaysia recorded 34 new clusters today, with 20 involving workplaces in Perak, Penang, Pahang, Melaka, Kelantan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor. They recorded 796 infections in total.

Twelve community clusters in Pahang, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan and Sarawak recorded 215 infections, while two high-risk group clusters in Penang and Selangor recorded 99. – The Vibes, August 14, 2021
