KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board will distribute a one-off RM500 assistance to 3,908 e-hailing drivers in Sabah and Labuan from Monday.

Its chairman, Datuk Chin Kim Hiung, said the RM1.95 million allocation is an extension of the RM1.29 million aid handed out to 2,588 taxi drivers, school and tourist bus drivers, and rental car operators from July 27.

“As of August 9, the board has received the names of 4,627 e-hailing drivers who applied for the Pemerkasa Plus assistance. This includes Grab (4,461), MyCar (112) and Maxim (54).

“Only 3,908 applicants are eligible for the assistance, and meet the criteria of earning at least RM500 a month during any period from January to May, as well as possessing an e–vehicle permit and Public Service Vehicle license (active after March).

Chin said the government is concerned about the welfare of public transport drivers in Sabah, and has allocated a RM3.24 million assistance for them via Pemerkasa Plus.

“This assistance shows that the government has not ignored their problems. We hope the assistance will reduce the burden of drivers who have been affected by the pandemic.”
