KUALA LUMPUR – Umno is galvanising support following the resignation of the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet.

In a statement issued by Umno, it urged leaders at all levels – divisions and branches – to stay united, loyal and supportive of the party leadership.

“We urge all our MPs and party leaders to defend the party’s resolution in line with the Umno constitution.

“All party members must continue to adhere to the principles of struggle, rules and ethics as Umno members.”

The statement is signed by deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and state liaison chairmen Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Hasni Mohammad, Datuk Saarani Mohamad, Datuk Seri Azlan Man, Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, and Tan Sri Noh Omar.

During this political crisis, Umno did not appear united as factions appeared to push for their candidates of choice.

On one hand, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he submitted a support letter with names of 14 MPs, while vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob initially said he would support the government until the confidence motion next month. – The Vibes, August 16, 2021
