KUALA LUMPUR – Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has assured that security and public order is under control in the country.
The IGP in a statement today urged the public to remain calm and refrain from making any speculation, following the fall of the Perikatan Nasional government.
Authorities will continue to monitor the security and will not hesitate to take stern action against anyone attempting to incite disharmony, he added.
“Police will safeguard national security and increase supervision to ensure public order.
“They are aware of recent events and will not hesitate to take stern action against anyone using whatever medium to disrupt public peace.”
Just hours ago, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his resignation as prime minister, and is currently serving as caretaker prime minister.
His stepping-down comes after he failed to garner bipartisan support from the opposition to make up for the loss of support in the Dewan Rakyat.
His bipartisan backing bid follows a move by 15 Umno MPs to withdraw support from his government.
