JOHOR BARU – Johor Bersatu will continue to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state government led by Umno, amid the latest political developments in the country following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as prime minister.
Its secretary Datuk Sahruddin Jamal confirmed that all 12 Bersatu assemblymen have expressed their support for the current state government.
“Johor Bersatu still supports the state government until there are further instructions from the party leadership.
“I fully support Datuk Hasni Mohammad as menteri besar because he is competent in carrying out his duties,” said the Bukit Kepong assemblyman when contacted via WhatsApp, here, today.
Johor Umno leads the state administration with 14 seats; followed by Bersatu with 12 seats, including the Gambir state seat which is held by Muhyiddin; MIC (two); and PAS (one), while the opposition have 14 seats from DAP, Amanah (six) and PKR (seven).
Earlier, Sahruddin said in a statement that the demand from certain quarters for the prime minister to resign immediately when the country was facing challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic was not a solution.
In Ipoh, Perak Bersatu information chief Kader Maiden Hussin said a meeting with the party’s state leadership would be held soon to discuss the country’s the latest developments.
“For now, we fully support the state government.
“I will hold a meeting with Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in the near future to get more details on the matter,” he told Bernama.
Currently, Umno has the largest share in the 59-seat Perak state legislative assembly with 25 seats, followed by DAP with 16 seats, followed by Bersatu and Amanah with six and five respectively.
PAS and PKR both have three seats each, while the remaining seat is held by an independent. – Bernama, August 17, 2021
