KANGAR – The looming change of government is unlikely to have an adverse impact on Perlis, said Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Ay Ling.
The PKR rep believes that the new administration will not halt federal funding to the country’s smallest state.
She expressed hope that the projects promised under the Perikatan Nasional government will continue, given that the state relies heavily on federal funding.
“I am personally hoping for a Pakatan Harapan federal government as the three PKR assemblymen in the state would then be able to seek more funds for economic development projects that are beneficial to the people.
“But everything is uncertain; no one can predict the changes.”
She was asked to comment on Perlis’ status following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister yesterday.
Gan has been under self-quarantine since last week after testing positive for Covid-19 following close contact with a constituent at her service centre. She will observe isolation until Sunday.
Perlis is presently administered by Umno. Of the 15 seats in the state assembly, the Barisan Nasional lynchpin holds 10, while its ally PAS has two.
