KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia Development Bhd trial today has been adjourned due to a request to attend a Barisan Nasional meeting at 11am.

The BN adviser is scheduled to attend the meet at Menara Dato Onn amid the political tussle to pick a new prime minister, reported The Malaysian Insight.

Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah granted the request.

The proceedings will continue at 2.30pm today.

“We need the case to move,” Sequerah was quoted as saying.

Making the request, Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said: “My client, as BN adviser, will attend (the meeting) with Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and the rest of the party leaders, to make a decision.

“This is my application to adjourn the trial today, so that he can be there.”

Last night, BN and Umno leaders met to hash out the matter of their prime minister candidate.

While Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob looks to be the front runner, some Supreme Council members said the deal is not set in stone. – The Vibes, August 18, 2021
