KOTA KINABALU – Sabah logged a new high of 2,583 Covid-19 infections today, contributed by a backlog of cases.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 289 cases or 11.2% of today’s new infections are backlog cases.
These were derived from tests done more than five days ago.
“Sabah’s Covid-19 daily cases are expected to remain high for the next few days until the state Health Department clears all backlog test results,” he told The Vibes.
Kota Kinabalu registered the highest number of 475 new infections today, 118 of which were backlog cases.
Other districts recording three-figure cases are Penampang (302), Tawau (240), Sandakan (170), Tuaran (163), Sipitang (136), Keningau (125), Lahad Datu (125), Papar (118), and Putatan (114).
Of the total 2,413 new cases, only 30 are in category 3, three in category 4, and five in category 5.
Category 2 patients with mild symptoms formed the largest group with 1,449 cases (56.1%), while 1,045 patients (40.5%) are in category 1 (no symptoms).
Close contact screenings contributed to most of the cases at 1,503 cases or 58.2%.
The state Health Department administered a total of 62,365 vaccine shots yesterday, with 48.4% of the adult population having received the first dose, and 25.8% fully vaccinated. – The Vibes, August 19, 2021
