KUALA LUMPUR – Congratulatory messages have poured in from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) main component parties over the appointment of Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri as the nation’s next prime minister.
In a much-awaited announcement from Istana Negara today, after a meeting of the Conference of Rulers, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong confirmed the appointment of Ismail Sabri to the nation’s top political seat.
However, the Bera MP must face a vote of confidence in Parliament soon following a decree on this matter by the king himself. The Dewan Rakyat convenes for its next session on September 6.
Bersatu communications chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan expressed his belief that Ismail Sabri will continue the efforts put forth by the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Bersatu prays that Ismail will be guided by God and fulfil his duties following constitutional principles and governance based on integrity, transparency, separation of powers, and ensures judicial independence.
“Bersatu also hopes that this appointment would bring the nation’s political crisis to a halt, and the next government must immediately focus on national health and economy,” Wan Saiful said.
Meanwhile, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang also congratulated Ismail Sabri in a statement this evening.
“PAS congratulates Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on this appointment and prays that he will always be blessed with success and God’s guidance to carry out this heavy responsibility.
“PAS calls on all leaders and the people to respect the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to enable the government to continue all efforts to address the Covid-19 pandemic, revive the economy and strengthen the country’s unity.”
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated Ismail Sabri and expressed gratitude to the king and the Conference of Rulers.
He also said his main focus now will be on the future of Umno.
God be praised, what has to be done, has been done. We hope the nation will immediately be saved from the threat of the pandemic
“As Umno president, my priority now will be the future of the party and the country,” Zahid posted on Facebook.
Calming any worry within the party, Zahid said that he would not put the aspirations of the party and its grassroots in the backseat.
Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, in congratulating Ismail Sabri, urged him to immediately tackle the pandemic and economy, as well as bring stability to the current political climate.
From Barisan Nasional, MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and MIC President Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran also extended messages of congratulations. – The Vibes, August 20, 2021
