[UPDATED] Daily Covid-19 cases dip slightly to 22,262, 223 deaths also reported

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today saw new Covid-19 cases drop to 22,262 after recording a new high of 23,564 yesterday. 

The previous national high for infections came just a day earlier with 22,948.

The country also continued to record a high number of fatalities with 223 deaths today. This brings the total number of lives lost since the pandemic began to 13,936.

Selangor again recorded the most cases with 7,011, followed by Sabah with 2,651 and Sarawak with 1,964. 

Kedah logged 1,880 new Covid-19 cases, Johor (1,558), Penang (1,459), Kuala Lumpur (1,220) and Kelantan saw 1,039. 

Perak notched up 946 fresh infections, Melaka had 882, Pahang saw 664, whille Terengganu logged 495 and Negri Sembilan registered 405 new Covid-19 cases.

Putrajaya recorded 41 new cases, while Perlis today saw 38 new infections and Labuan had 9.

As for the nation’s infectivity rate (Rt), the value currently stands at 1.04, the same as yesterday.

Perlis continues to record the highest Rt value at 1.38, followed by Sarawak (1.31), Sabah (1.23), Penang (1.16), Kelantan (1.14), Perak (1.11), Kedah (1.1), Johor (1.06), Pahang (1.06), Melaka (1.05), and Terengganu (1.05).

Selangor recorded an Rt value of less than one at 0.98, as did Kuala Lumpur with 0.95, Negri Sembilan (0.92), Putrajaya (0.89), while Labuan registered a value of zero.

With regard to clusters, the Health Ministry reported that 1,435 are currently active, including the 32 new ones identified today.

18 clusters concern worksites involving Johor, Kelantan, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Sabah and Selangor.

These worksite clusters registered 800 infections cumulatively.

Meanwhile, the ministry detected 13 community clusters involving Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Sarawak and Selangor which recorded a total of 369 Covid-19 cases.
