MIRI – Sarawak has banned all non-essential travel into the state as part of its protective measures following a sharp increase of Covid-19 infections in the past three days.
The state Disaster Management Committee confirmed in a statement that the decision was made today.
“Travel into Sarawak for leisure, tourism and casual visits will be prohibited with immediate effect. Travelling into the state for urgent medical purposes, meeting spouses and children, official functions for work and essential matters are allowed.
“However, visitors must be vaccinated against the Covid-19 and must get negative PCR results three days before they land in Sarawak,” the committee secretariat said.
Sarawak today saw 1,964 new infections with state capital Kuching recording nearly a third of the total new cases with 697 patients being registered for the virus.
Belaga district has 295, Samarahan 227, Lundu 217 and many districts with dozens of cases.
There were also two new deaths at Sarawak General Hospital involving a woman aged 94 and a man aged 90, bringing the total coronavirus death toll in the state to 497. – The Vibes, August 21, 2021
