[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases down to 19,807 as S’gor, Sabah record drops, but 232 deaths reported

KUALA LUMPUR – 19,807 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Malaysia today, as infections fell to 5,379 in Selangor. 

Sabah, meanwhile, saw new cases drop slightly to 2,638 today.

Kedah had 1,948 new infections, Sarawak (1,772), Penang (1,501), Johor (1,391), Kelantan (1,196) and Kuala Lumpur had 999.

Perak notched up 703 new infections in the past day, Pahang (598), Melaka (558), Terengganu (534), Negri Sembilan (508), Putrajaya (24), Perlis (54) and Labuan recorded just 4 new cases.

Only 5 of the nationwide tally today were imported, while recoveries in the past 24 hours stood at 18,200.

1,026 Covid-19 patients in Malaysia are currently in intensive care, with 496 needing ventilator support.

The pandemic death toll in the country now stands at 14,168 after 232 fresh fatalities.

43 of these were brought in dead, 32 of which were Malaysian citizens and 11 were non-citizens.

9,624 cases. or 48.8%, were category 2 (mild symptoms), 83.1% of which have not completed their vaccinations; and 9,840 cases, or 49.7%, were category 1 (asymptomatic), 81.9% of which have not been fully vaccinated.

171 cases. or 0.9%, were category 3 (pneumonia), 89.5% of which have not completed their vaccinations; 68, or 0.3%, were category 4 (on respiratory support), 89.7% of which have not been fully vaccinated; and 104, or 0.5%, were category 5 (in intensive care units), 94.2% of which have not been fully vaccinated. 

Dr Noor Hisham said the 232 deaths today involved 94 in Selangor, followed by Johor with 64, 16 in Sabah, 15 in Kuala Lumpur 15, 11 in Kedah, nine in Kelantan, eight in Penang, and five in Perak.

He said Melaka and Negri Sembilan recorded three deaths each, Terengganu two, and one case each in Sarawak and Pahang.

The country has recorded a total of 4,442 clusters, including 24 new clusters today.

Clusters that have ended are at 3,006, leaving 1,436 clusters active.

Dr Noor Hisham said 12 of today’s new clusters are from workplaces, 11 from the community, and one from a high-risk group.

The new cluster with the highest new cases is the Jalan Gelugor 2 construction site cluster in Seberang Prai with 59 cases, while the one with the least infections is the Dermaga Halaman Timur workplace cluster in Johor Baru, with eight cases. – The Vibes, August 22, 2021
